The City Year Giants Team of Volunteer Mentors support the staff at Daubeney Primary School in a full-time capacity providing mentoring, tutoring and after school support to the students. The team assist with a variety of extracurricular clubs, work with the teaching staff in the classroom and deliver one-to-one support in Numeracy and Literacy.
City Year UK is working in partnership with Daubeney Primary School to:
- Create positive and supportive relationships with children to help them attain the highest standard of achievement they can;
- Implement City Year and Daubeney culture to encourage children to be aware of their behaviour and how it affects other people and their community;
- Improve and incentivise good attendance and behaviour within the children.
The team is made up of six Volunteer Mentors and one Impact Officer working across Years 3 and 4 and Daily Supported Reading in Year 1. Throughout the day, they offer in-class support, work as mentors in a one-to-one basis with students as well as lead and play games in the playground. Alongside this, the team also help out with Breakfast and after school clubs.
