¡Bienvenidos y bienvenidas a las clases de español!
Pupils at our school learn Spanish and enjoy the benefits of starting to learn a foreign language at an early age. We support the view that learning a modern foreign language is an entitlement for all pupils, regardless of their background and ability, and therefore all pupils are encouraged to develop their full potential in Spanish.
Learning a foreign language provides an opening to other cultures, fosters pupils’ curiosity and deepens their understanding of the world. It helps them to develop communication skills, including key skills of speaking and listening, and extends their knowledge of how language works, helping them to develop their grammar skills, and overall preparing pupils to the challenges of the secondary languages curriculum.
If you would like to know more about this area of the curriculum, please talk to Sara Alonso.
Silver Spanish Primary Award
Daubeney has been awarded a Silver Primary Spanish Award (Premio Español Primaria) for its success in Embedding Spanish across the Curriculum. This award demonstrates the high Quality of the Spanish Provision and recognises well established best practice from schools in Hackney. It is also used by secondary schools to measure the quality of the quality of learning Spanish in primary schools.
The award and its criteria were developed by a number of language and education specialists, to promote and encourage outstanding Spanish teaching practice across Hackney.
It is endorsed and supported by the British Council, the Spanish Embassy Education Department and the Junta de Castilla y León.
At Daubeney, extended learning is promoted by our Spanish Champions, who help other pupils and support their class teachers to practice what we learn in Spanish class throughout the week.
Our Spanish Champions always follow Daubeney’s Golden expectations. We feel extremely proud of them and the important role they play in our school.
Word Mats / Knowledge Organisers
Knowledge organisers include essential vocabulary about a topic, laid out in easy-to-digest chunks. They are an excellent revision tool.
At Daubeney we encourage learning tongue twisters as a fun way to learn new vocabulary and practice pronunciation.
